Mother's Day saved by cell phones as flashlights

Postal workers in Scarborough sorted mail by the lights of their mobile phones to save Mother's Day after a power cut in the town centre, reports UK's Scarborough Today.

"They started at work in darkness at 5.30am and used every means possible to sort the mail and ensure Mother's Day cards and presents arrived on time. The sorting office deals with around 85,000 items of mail on a Saturday and the Royal Mail was facing a major disaster before staff dug in".

This is not the first time a cell phone used as a flashlight has saved the day:

-- In march of last year, the glow of a mobile phone screen led to a remarkable rescue in the Tasmanian bush. A Hobart man, lost in the dense bush was facing his second night in cold conditions when he "flagged down" a search helicopter with the light from his mobile phone.
