Mobile phone-like waves damage mice sperm
A preliminary study by Australian scientists has shown that radio waves similar to the frequency emitted by mobile phones can cause DNA damage to mice sperm, reports Xinhua, via Keralanext. The research conducted by scientists of Australia's University of Newcastle had mice being bombarded with electromagnetic radiation at 900 megahertz seven days for 12 hours each. Researchers described the DNA damage to the mice sperm as "statistically significant" although they did not find any problem with the sperm's motility. John Aitken, an expert in male reproduction at the university's faculty of science and information said that studies into possible links between mobile phone use and cancer had proved conflicting. However, research involving the reproductive system and mobile phones was new. "The field is still very controversial," Aitken said.
