South Korean Government to Crack down on Spammers
The Ministry of Information and Communication of Korea announced Monday its plan to clamp down on illegal mobile spam messages, reports Seong-ju Lee for Telecoms Korea. "So far mobile marketers have been able to avoid punishment by attaching and 'advertisement’ sign to the messages or indicating how to refuse such messages. But, under the new regulation going into effect in April, any promotional message sent without the preliminary agreement from the receiver will be regarded as illegal and subject to a heavy fine - up to 30 million won (about $ 30 thousand) - with further investigation, if necessary. The Ministry is planning to search for evidence of violation through close monitoring on mobile marketers from next month". |
