Home-Grown Mobile Internet Platform to Be Mandated Next Year
According to the Korea Times, South Korean mobile handset manufacturers will be required to use a homegrown wireless Internet platform for every cell phone shipped locally as of April 2005. "The Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) said Friday it revised regulations to mandate the wireless Internet platform for interoperability (WIPI) from early next year. Under the new law, handset makers can equip their gadgets with any platform or platforms as long as they include the open-source WIPI." |
