Lightning Injures Mobile Phone User (?)
Lightning hit dozens of sightseers at the Juyongguan section of the Great Wall this weekend. Fifteen people were slightly injured in the 2:40 PM strike on Saturday, and "witnesses said that an elderly person was using a mobile phone to make a call during a lightning storm", reports China.org. According to Mike Masnick for Techdirt Wireless, who checked out a hoax busting site, this story has been making the rounds over email for quite some time, with no facts to support it. In fact, many sites recommend you use a mobile phone rather than a fixed line phone in a thunderstorm, since they're much safer. |
