Gambling operators have been attracting students to bet on the popular “ending” game
Following up on a previous post regarding mobile phones banned in Philippino schools to stop students from gambling, local Government Secretary Angelo Reyes cried foul over allegations that the police was partly responsible for the proliferation of illegal gambling in schools, reports abs-cbnnews. "At the Metropolitan Overseas Press Club breakfast meeting in Greenhills on Thursday, Angelo Reyes said, “Why should the police be blamed for the problem of their kids? “These children have families and other socio-civic groups can nurture them.” Gambling operators have been attracting students to bet on the popular “ending” game, where the winners are determined by combining the last digits of the final scores of a professional and televised sports game, usually basketball. According to reports, a male student from an exclusive school committed suicide after allegedly losing P100,000 in bets in the recent NBA Finals through text messaging. The education sector is divided on the proposal to ban cellphones in schools as some leaders say that mobile phones are an effective medium on which parents can communicate with their children especially students that came from the provinces." |
