SMS messages slash truancy

Every once in a while we read about a school who alerts parent by SMS when their child skip's school, this article actually describes a school's system and gives feedback on it's the success, as reported by The West Australian.

"The system sends a message to parents when their children do not arrive at school and asks for a reply message to explain their absence. The reply is then stored against the student's record in place of an absentee note.

Coodanup Community College principal Gaylia Mitcham said the SMS messages were an immediate success, with unexplained absences decreasing from 40 each day to about 10.

The system is in 70 schools around Australia".
