Text-A-Vet
Following yesterday's post on mobile search engine-style services, another human search engine by SMS has launched in the UK, but this time, the service answers questions adressed by a very specific group of the population, pet owners. A first (to the best of my knowledge) in the mobile world - because both general and specialized Ask Expert Websites proliferated online a couple of years ago. Launched by Neo One, a provider of consumer-driven interactive managed services, Text-A-Vet, allows pet owners to send questions by SMS to a qualified vet, and receive a response within the hour. The service, which costs £1.50 per question, is intended for pet owners who need advice and reassurance, and is straightforward to use. Pet owners simply text the word “vet” followed by their question to short code number 83248. They immediately receive an acknowledgement by text to their phone, shortly followed by the vet’s answer. The team of vets is headed by chief veterinary surgeon, Jenny Babington, BVetMed MRCVS. She comments: “I came up with the Text-A-Vet idea after talking to a client who brought in her dog for a check up. She said she had a number of pet care questions, but didn’t want to bother me with them. She felt her concerns were insufficiently important for my attention; but she wasn’t sure where to find answers.” Related articles and services: -- Re5ult - A UK SMS Ask Experts service consulted by the very popular "pub quiz" gamers. -- Cell phone search takes on Net engines - More on issuebits.com, a new UK start-up, offering a search engine-style service to answer any question by text message. -- Startup offers text message Q&A service - Colly Myers, founding CEO of Symbian, launches issuebits.com, a search engine-style service to answer any question by text message. -- Google to go - Mark Frauenfelder for TheFeature.com, reports on a fee-based information service for mobile users in Australia called Mojo Knows. |
