Vodafone unveils new phone for the blind
Following Sunday's story on India launching a speech-based application for cell phones, electricnews.net reports today that Vodafone Ireland is launching a new 'speaking phone' with pre-loaded software capable of audible display to assist the visually impaired. "The mobile phone replaces text-based services, such as text-messaging and SMS weather reports, with an audible display. The product is the result of a pilot scheme between Vodafone and the National Council for the Blind of Ireland (NCBI). Based on a Nokia handset, the speaking phone will be available in Ireland this month after launching in the UK in February 2003".
