India: SMS wins the elections hands down

Campaign 2004 promises to be the most innovative and new-age, the country has ever witnessed. From SMS to focused websites, use of captive databases to voice mails, it’s all there, according to Indian News Today, South India's leading English evening newspaper.

"Now more and more parties are competing through cyberspace and airwaves in the 'e-campaign' targeted mainly at about 150 million of India's 650 million voters who have access to TV, Internet and mobiles".

The Congress says that it plans to speak to 120 million voters through telephone, SMS and e-mail.

Both the Congress and the BJP have set aside a huge chunk just for technology-driven canvassing".
