Australia moves to limit youth access to phone porn

The Australian Communications Authority (ACA) is currently considering locking minors' mobile phones using PIN numbers or by classifications similar to those used in films to prevent access to raunchy premium-rate SMS or MMS services, according to the Courrier Mail.

"The ACA was currently discussing two techniques of blocking minors' access to R-rated services.

One method would see mobile phones issued with PIN numbers that would need to be entered before adult services could be accessed.

The second method would rate content in a way similar to films – by G, PG, M, MA and R classifications – and assign a specific number to each classification. Numbers for adult content could then be barred from specific mobile phones.

Mr Johnston said the ACA would also create regulations about the promotion and cost of these services before their April launch.
