NFL fines Joe Horn $ 30'000 for cell phone stunt
Joe Horn, the New Orleans pro football receiver who pulled out a cell phone and made a call while on national television last Sunday (cf Football player's use of cell phone during game draws penalty), has been fined $30,000 and return specialist Michael Lewis was fined $5,000 for handing him the phone. The Saints were penalized 15 yards for unsportsmanlike conduct for the stunt, according to Sports Illustrated. The Mercury News, who claims the phone call was premeditated - "a teammate took the phone from the padding of a goalpost at the Superdome, and Horn phoned home. The stunt was boringly premeditated, one more episode in which a wide receiver gratuitously tries to grab the spotlight" - wonders if the NFL is upset that Horn might have used a phone that wasn't made by one of the league's corporate sponsors. |
