Trade group promotes cell phone recycling

According to Wireless Week magazine, more than 60 percent of Americans discard their used wireless phones rather than recycle them.

In a reader poll, the magazine found 61.7 percent of participants slip their old phones into a drawer and forget about them rather than recycle them or give them away to worthy causes. [The Washington Times]

The Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association is promoting "Donate A Phone," a program tied to the holiday shopping season that helps people find ways to get rid of old phones in a productive manner.

And the CTIA has also set up a Web site at recyclewirelessphones.com to give consumers more information about environmentally sound ways to dispose of old wireless devices.
