Finding the Right Handset For Older Cellphone Users

In an article adressing the concerns of senior citizens and cell phones, Katherine Meyer for the WSJ reports that people over 65 years old are largely ignored by youth-focused wireless carriers. "Otherwise, we'd be seeing more effort to produce simpler phones with easier-to-read keypads and louder rings. Currently, seniors make up about 15% of overall cellphone users".

In a previous post in Textually, Simplified Phones for the Elderly, a mobile telematics company Benefon seems to have responded to such a need, with the launch in (Australia) of a new cell phone which combines a GSM/GPS alert system. Called «Benefon Seraph», it's meant to be a "guardian angel" phone. Ultra simplified with only 3 buttons, it allows for direct dialing to predefined numbers.
