Firms at risk under phone and drive law

Something to think about. An alarming number of UK employers are unaware that they could be held responsible for staff breaking a new law that forbids the holding of a mobile phone while driving, a survey by law firm Peninsula has highlighted. [startups.co.uk]

"Under the new law that comes into force from 1st December, drivers can be prosecuted for careless, inconsiderate or dangerous driving if using a mobile phone has influenced them do so.

In most cases the driver will be held responsible for their actions, but employers may also be made liable if found guilty of enforcing their workers to use their mobile while driving. Penalties include an unlimited fine, disqualification and up to two years imprisonment."
