Hospital Appointments by SMS
Haukeland University Hospital is to use text messaging to schedule appointments with patients in an attempt to increase efficiency and save approximately six million NOK each year. The project is the first of it’s kind in Norway, reports 160characters.org. At the moment, only certain departments have started to use the new system. but all departments should be running it by the end of September". According to 160characters.org, "with its total of 6000 employees, Haukeland University Hospital is the largest hospital in Norway. The hospital has 1,100 beds and treats 53,000 inpatients and 230,000 outpatients a year". Another related example, this time in the UK, was reported earlier in Textually.org, about a doctor at South Manchester University Hospital using text messaging to communicate with patients to cut down waiting times for medical results. Using their name and date of birth to identify themselves, patients can get in touch for test results and will also be sent reminders if they need regular check-ups or for their next appointment. |
