Famous artwork for cell phone screens
123Multimedia, a French producer of logos and ringtones, has announced the launch of a series of "Master Painting" wallpaper designs for cell phone screens, according to (French) mobicity. To download a single work of art cost approximately $ 3.- and the catalogue offers a dozen famous artists to chose from, such as Keith Haring, Ben, Roy Lichtenstein, Salvador Dali, Marc Chagall, Robert Combas…And a young French artist, Jofo, is offering his own original artwork. This is not the first time the artworld meets cell phones. In July 2001, Vodafone teamed up with Britart and commissioned eight electronic art-works from established and rising stars in contemporary art, allowing Vodafone subscribers to "pick out a canvas for a completely portable exhibition". And one of my favorite companies SeeMySMS launched a collection of designer wallpapers last Spring, signed by Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Lolita Lempicka, Inès de la Fressange, Eric Bergère, Chantal Thomass, Chayan Khoï...
