«Dare To Say No!»
«Osez Dire Non!» or «Dare to Say No!» is a text messaging campaign launched by the European Union, to warn teenagers about the dangers related to smoking and tobacco. Launched April 1st in most European countries, it will continue until 2004. From Nioki's website, young people can download free «Dare to say No!» logos and sign up to receive SMS advice or encouragements to stop smoking. They can also participate in a monthly contest and vote on the "best reason to stop smoking" by SMS. In a similar spirit, in February 2002, a French government ministry sent out 20'000 SMS, inviting young people to visit their website on drugs and alcool prevention. And more recently, the British Lung Foundation (BLF) sent out 30,000 texts messages to young adults, to raise awareness that smoking cannabis could be harfmul to their health (cf related article in textually.org). |
