Cell Phones, part of dowry negociations in India
In an eye opening article on dowry negociations in India -- where the business of marriage still goes strong --, an appalling unofficial study estimates that nearly 25,000 women die due to dowry harassment (which occurs when a dowry is promised and not paid up), with many more left maimed or scarred. According to Times of India, "not only has the incidence of dowry increased in middle and upper middle-class India, there has been a mutation in its form too. The traditional four F's (phone, fiat, fridge, flat) have been replaced by cell-phones". |
