Receiving Numbers
Overview
We provide the ability to receive SMS through Virtual Numbers on a number of networks in multiple countries.
These numbers look like normal numbers in every way, except that they sit on network operator systems without being allocated to real telephones. They are specifically designed to receive SMS and their messages are forwarded directly to our SMSC.
They provide high levels of throughput and reliability, are usually fast & easy to set-up and, from the mobile user's point of view, are not surrounded by any pricing confusion (as can sometimes be the case with Short Codes).
Local vs Mobile
We provide two types of Virtual Numbers: Virtual Local Numbers (VLN) and Virtual Mobile Numbers (VMN).
The only differences between them are that they look slightly different and that VLNs tend only to be able to receive SMS on a local basis only. VMNs, on the other hand, can receive SMS on an international basis (i.e. from mobile users in other countries).
Access Levels
We provide 2 different access levels to our VMNs:
- Dedicated: All inbound SMS sent to the number are routed to you.
- Shared: All inbound SMS beginning with keywords leased by you are routed to you.
